Biography

Kaif was born in Hong Kong on 16 July 1984, to a Kashmiri father (who acquired British citizenship) and a British mother. Kaif has eight siblings; seven sisters and one brother. At age 14 she was approached by an agent and began modeling; her first job was for a jewellery campaign. She continued modelling in London.

*Career*

Kaif's London model work led to her discovery by film-maker Kaizad Gustad. She moved to Mumbai and was offered a number of modelling assignments. However, film-makers were at first hesitant to sign her because she wasn't able to speak Hindi.

Breakthrough (2005-2006)

Katrina saw success with the 2005 film Sarkar with Abhishek Bachchan. Her next release, Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya (2006),she earned her an award at the Stardust Award for breakthrough female performance.

In a recent interview to HT, when asked about whether she had been ever in love, the soft-spoken actress had nothing to hide; She said, "Yes, I've been in love.

The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) has insured the Ayyappa's shrine for a value of Rs 30 crore ($7 million) and also introduced a free- of-cost accident insurance project for pilgrims visiting the temple. The pilgrims' insurance scheme offered up to Rs 1 lakh to the devotees suffering injuries or death at a stretch of about 18 km from Nilakkal to uphill Sannidhanam where the temple is located. An estimated 5 crore (50 million) pilgrims visits the temple every year. During the main season from November to January it is estimated that Sabarimala contributes at least 150 crore rupees to the economy of Kerala.

Sabarimala
is a Hindu pilgrimage center located in the Western Ghat mountain ranges of Pathanamthitta District in Kerala. Sabarimala is believed to be the place where the Hindu God Ayyappan meditated after killing the powerful demoness,
Mahishi.
Sabarimala is linked to Hindu pilgrimage; Ayyappan Devotees must go at least once in their lifetime and it is the largest annual pilgrimage in the world with an estimated 45–50 million devotees visiting every year.
The temple is open for worship only during the days of Mandalapooja (approximately November 15 to December 26), Makaravilakku (January 14- "Makara Sankranti") and Vishu (April 14), and the first five days of each Malayalam month.

The devotees are expected to follow a vratham (41-day penance) prior to the pilgrimage. This begins with wearing of a special Mala (a garland made of Rudraksha or Tulasi beads). In general from then they are to refrain from meat, fish, alcohol, tobacco, sex, using foul words, hair-cuts and shaving. They are expected to bath twice and visit the local temples regularly and only wear plain black, blue or saffron coloured traditional clothing. The visit to Sabarimala is thought for settling the shani-dosha to make the planet give better life and lifespan. This is according to astrological principles of controlling shani-dosha.
Hundreds of devotees still follow the traditional mountainous forest path (approximately 45 km) from
Erumely,
believed to be taken by Ayyappa himself.


Women between the ages of 10 and 50 are not allowed to enter the temple, since the story attributed to Ayyappa prohibits the entry of the women in the
menstrual age group. This is because Ayyappan is a Bramachari (Celibate).

Over 2,000 families have been evacuated to safer grounds since Monday night to avoid possible eruption of Mayon Volcano in the Philippines' Albay province, a senior government official said Tuesday.

Mayon volcano in Legazpi city, Albay province, continues to spew ash Tuesday Dec. 15, 2009 about 500 kilometers (310 miles) south of Manila, Philippines. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, PHIVOLCS, has raised the five-alert level to three following increased activity of the country's most active volcano and residents are prohibited from venturing into the 6-kilometer (4 mile) permanent danger zone. In December 2006 ash deposits from a previous eruption rolled down its slopes at the onslaught of a typhoon killing more than a thousand residents living around the cone-shaped volcano. Rafael Alejandro, director of the Office of Civil Defense in the Bicol region, said the evacuation began around 8 p.m. Monday when the authorities raised the alert to Level 3.

This means those living within six-kilometers from the foot of the volcano need to be moved. These include families residing in the city of Tabaco and the towns of Malilipot, Daraga, Camalig, Guinubatan and Ligao.

Alejandro said they observed at least five ash explosions from the volcano since Monday.

As of Tuesday morning, the civil defense office has evacuated 2,611 families. They plan to evacuate over 9,000 families in the next three days.

The 2,472-meter volcano is located in Albay province, about 360kilometers south of the country's capital Manila.

The volcano has erupted about 50 times since 1616. It last erupted in July 2006, forcing more than 30,000 people to flee their homes.

and Lindsay Lohan are set to work together on new film ‘Good Girls Go Bad’, it has been claimed.

The troubled Toxic star and the Mean Girls actress have reportedly got the film’s director, Ian Shroder so worried about working with them both at the same time - he has put up his own insurance.

A source said: “They will star as rivals in the movie which will be set in New York and there’s lots of excitement about it.

“One producer told Ian it could be a potential disaster, but he laughed it off and said he was even willing to pay the insurance himself.”
